The Delaware Valley Herpetological Society was formed in 2008 by Philadelphia-area herpetology enthusiasts to promote education about and conservation of wildlife in general and herpetofauna in particular as well as to achieve a closer cooperation and understanding between amateur and professional herpetologists. We generally meet every other month (see the “Meetings” page) and try to mix outdoor outings with lectures by experts on a range of topics in herpetology.
The DVHS is led by officers Robert Feuer – President, Bernard Brown – Vice President, Phil Taylor – Secretary, Frank Mondrosch – Treasurer, along with Steering Committee members Rick Prinz, Ned Gilmore, Al Palmer, Margaret Barker, Scott McWilliams, John Smith, and Bill Turner.
Unfortunately we do not handle reptile/amphibian adoption or rehoming. If you are looking to rehome a critter, check out Forgotten Friend, a rescue in Lancaster County that can directly help with some herps and that features adoption forums on its website.
For more information about the DVHS please feel free to email Bernard Brown at billysbrown[at]gmail[dot]com
We are looking for a home for our coral snake, about one and a half years old. Any suggestions?
Unfortunately we do not have a rehoming operation, but check with Forgotten Friend (www.forgottenfriend.org) which operates a rescue in Lancaster County, PA as well as online rescue/adoption forums.
Box turtles tend to be very fixed to where they live, so when they’re relocated they generally do poorly. They wander and try to find ‘home’ and starve or get runover in the process. Since relocating the box turtle will probably not go well, returning it to the side of the road it was headed for was the best option.
I need to find a home for my 3 year old Iguana, I am moving and can not take him with me. Can someone please help me???

I found a box turtle on the road this morning. What should I do with him? All that is around that area are houses. I’m afraid he will get hit by a car or tortured by neighborhood children.
Thanks!
